'YOU CAN'T DO THAT IN ST. LOUIS' - EPILOGUE
(I Doo'd it)
Sheldon Concert Hall, St. Louis MO
TUESDAY NOVEMBER 18TH 8 PM 2003
I would like to say thank you to all who attended my concert. (If you care to
get some preliminary background on how this concert came to be, please see, BACKGROUND).
Was It As Good For You...
My NOV 18th ‘03 concert at the Sheldon was one of the most gratifying experiences
in my life and was a key note for a new direction for me. Many thank you-s go
out to folks who helped me pull it together. But mainly, thanks for
coming! Because actually, this was my first real gig doing standup
comedy and, without a track record in that, people really didn't know what they
were getting into coming to see me, and I must give them credit for that. (I've
got to say that I've been in the audience of not-great comics and it can almost
hurt!) But some took a chance. Some trusted me (what fools!). Maybe some people
came to watch something crash and burn (say it isn't so...) And others just said,
what the hell, this could be interesting. And judging from my take on things
and the feedback I've gotten, it was not only interesting, but entertaining and
dare I say, yes, funny.
As a couple of reviews, pics and video clips come in from the show, I will have
them posted on the site. If you would care to be kept abreast (or even two) of
my upcoming schedule, please submit your email address so that we may sell it
to the highest bidder! (that was a JOKE, aren't I funny?) Really, thanks again
for being there!
Sincerely,
NEWS FLASH
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
YOU CAN'T DO THAT IN ST. LOUIS
ALAN OXENHANDLER
AN EVENING OF COMEDY & MUSIC
TUESDAY NOVEMBER 18, 8 PM 2003 AT THE SHELDON
Performing artist and vocalist ALAN OXENHANDLER is best known in the St.
Louis region for his self-accompanied singing on piano in many of St. Louis'
most popular piano bars and bistros in the last 20 years. His music spans
the pop and R&B genres from the 1960's, including composers such as
Jobim, the Beatles and Marvin Gaye, and includes jazz classics from the
likes of Cole Porter. His self-realized vocal quality is born of an admiration
of the music of Sinatra, Joe Williams and Mel Torme. In addition, music
lovers have enjoyed Alan's quick wit and willingness to take on the most
'challenging' of customers in the piano-bar scene with his own disarming
brand of dry humor and repartee.
On Tuesday, November 18th at 8 PM at the Sheldon Concert Hall, Alan will
breakthrough the limits of past performances and venues with a one-night-only
show, YOU CAN'T DO THAT IN ST. LOUIS, in which he will step out from behind
the piano to share his brand of comedic observation, and launch into some
of the personas and characters which he has brought to life in many 'open-mic'
nights he has performed at various comedy clubs in the last ten years.
This performance will mark the first time in a decade that standup comedy
is featured on the Sheldon stage. Touching on subjects such as almost being
a Beatle, aging parents, and strange dreams, Alan peppers his monologue
with voices and characterizations of the known (such as Obiwan, Yoda or
Neil Diamond) as well as unknown, while touching on aspects of life from
the quirky to outrageous. Oxenhandler's humor has been called unstoppable,
unpredictable, and completely familiar.
Alan chose the title, YOU CAN'T DO THAT IN ST. LOUIS referring to a conversation
he had with a successful promoter about advancing his career in Los Angeles.
Alan will be joined by the band, WILD COOL AND SWINGIN' for the musical
portion of the show to perform some of his favorite tunes in BIG BAND fashion.
Advance tickets at $15. orchestra and $14. balcony are available at all
MetroTix locations (314) 534 1111 and metrotix.com.
For more information, please see Alan's web site, aloxlive.com. This show
is produced in association with the Sheldon.
